PERCIN
Percin is conceived as an alter ego-like performance state, or more simply a character, who expresses himself through an exaggerated, explicit, camp way of communicating, and deals primarily with the topic of communication itself. Commenting on whatever current issue or topic at hand, Percin makes use of words, voice and breath sounds, movement and gestures to amplify the complexity of the information delivered.
Percin is therefore a celebration, and accepting, of the inherently unclear nature of communication.
Percin is thought as a solo act project, where Joao wears the umbrella of the character to express ideas in a raw, and above all completely improvised, way. Drawing inspiration from a bouffon clown, and protected by the agreement of the performance, the aim is to let information unfold freely and expose the nature of communication in a comedic way. The act of Percin is thought as a physical stand-up comedy about the “tragedy” of communication.
The act is intended as a social media project, where the language of dance-theatre is used to speak about everyday topics that are in vogue in mainstream culture, as well as less superficial questions which are not commonly discussed in that space. Besides that, the act will take form onstage as The Percin Show, a physical stand-up comedy act, fully improvised, and fully adaptable to the conditions and requirements of a presenter. In any of those conditions, the aim is the same: to inspire relatability through comedy, as we all discuss, laugh, and comment on our experience with communication.
Percin is in its conception and preparation stage for its social media part, but can already be seen in The Percin Show.
